Tube Screamer™ kit FAQ
Do I need experience to build this Tube Screamer kit?
You need to be comfortable soldering, but you don't need to be an expert. Free step-by-step instructions, the schematic, parts layout and wiring diagram are on the Tube Screamer project page, so you can read through the whole build before you order, and we answer build questions by email.
What comes in the kit, and what do I need to supply?
The kit includes the PCB, every electronic part, the pots and knobs, the clipper toggle switch, a 3PDT true-bypass footswitch with LED, Switchcraft jacks, a DC power jack, battery snap, wire, and the pre-drilled enclosure you choose. You supply a 9V battery or power adapter and your soldering tools.
Which enclosure should I choose?
The 125B is the classic pedalboard-friendly size and is drilled for the clipper toggle. The 1590BB is larger, with more room for wiring and mods. The 1590B is the smallest, but it has no room for the clipper toggle switch. Choose No Enclosure if you have a box of your own.
What does the modification option add?
It adds the parts for the Keeley mod or the "Very Expensive Boutique" mod: LF353P and RC4558P ICs, an 8-pin socket, a 1 meg audio taper Drive pot, and extra resistors and capacitors to fine-tune your sound. It adds $9 to the kit price.
Does it sound like an original TS-808?
It is a replica of the TS-808 circuit, with the JRC4558D op-amp and a 20k "EQ" taper tone pot like the original. The original's FET switching is replaced by a true-bypass footswitch, which has no effect on the sound.
How fast do you ship, and can I return a kit?
We usually ship within 1-2 business days, and delivery time depends on the carrier and your area. A kit can be returned for your money back as long as it is complete and unsoldered.
